In 1951, Sir Hugh Beaver, then the managing director of the Guinness Brewery, realised that a book supplying the answers to this sort of question might prove popular. He was right!
Calling all Gaming Collectors
Here at Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition we’re looking for collectors of video games hardware and software. In fact, we love collectors so much we’re prepared to dedicate a large chunk of the 2009 GWR: Gamer’s Edition in recognition of what is often an all-consuming, life-long pursuit of gaming stuff. From the most gaming key rings through to gigantic Nintendo collections spilling out of spare rooms and attics: we want to know about it. So, if your games collection looks something like the following...
- Largest PLAYSTATION collection
- Largest XBOX/360 collection
- Largest NINTENDO collection
- Largest SEGA collection
- Largest ATARI collection
- Largest OVERALL gaming collection
- Largest PC collection
- Largest collection of gaming costumes (Mario, Link, Gordon Freeman, WoW characters etc)
…or even nothing like the above but is still impressive enough to interest other gamers then let us know by sending an attached photograph and inventory of the collection to videogames@guinnessworldrecords.com . The owner of the largest collection in each category becomes an Official Guinness World Record holder with a prestigious certificate and is of course featured in the 2009 Gamer’s Edition.

German-born journalist Rene Meyer has a collection of 274 playable gaming systems – the largest of its kind. The collection includes consoles, hand-helds, home computes, LCD games and educational computers.
