Digital records broken as Gamer’s Edition Launches

The cream of UK’s professional gaming scene was out in force as the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition launched in central London.
Lured by the prospect of setting their very own world record, professionals and amateurs alike were challenged on a selection of top games, including party favourites Guitar Hero III and Wii Tennis as well as the highly competitive Halo 3, FIFA 08, Project Gotham Racing 4 and Sensible World of Soccer. In attendance were professional gamers from two of the UK’s leading clans: Birmingham Salvos and London Mint.
Birmingham Salvos were represented by David ‘Daveyskills’ Kelly, (who walked away with a world record in Project Gotham Racing 4) and the team of Michael ‘Bazza’ Barrett and Samantha ‘Ricochet’ Whale (who successfully set the score attack record on Halo 3).
London Mint, meanwhile, put forward the UK’s FIFA 08 champion Chris ‘ChrisyB’ Bullard for a successful attempt to set the highest margin of victory against real-life world champions Italy.
Although the records in Wii Tennis and Sensible World of Soccer remained unbroken on the night, world record holder and games journalist Luke Albiges broke his own personal best with an intimidating display of skill on Guitar Hero 3.
Keith Pullin, editor of the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition, congratulated the record breakers: “The games industry is the fastest growing entertainment sector in the world, and the launch of our Gamer’s Edition book shows just how exciting it is to be involved. Today’s record breakers have set out a challenge for gamers across the world, and I look forward to seeing some incredible records being set this year, and included in our 2009 edition.”
