OUR HISTORY
In 1951, Sir Hugh Beaver, then the managing director of the Guinness Brewery, realised that a book supplying the answers to this sort of question might prove popular. He was right!
Contest for Cosplay Record Heats Up
There's been lots of talk over the last 12 months about the record Largest gathering of people dressed as video games characters. After the bar was set in February at 80 people, several organisations voiced their interest in beating it but none were prepared to submit their evidence.
All that changed this week when Animexx e.V., the German fanclub for anime, manga and gaming were able to prove they had an impressive 337 costumed participants at their Connichi show in Kassel, Germany in September.
The world of record breaking is prone to change at a moment's notice, so the organisers of this year's MCM Expo at the ExCel centre in London's Docklands will be watching the record closely – their attempt on 25 October was planned before they learned of the record changing hands, and were expecting to only need 81 or more participants to take the title.
This news has definitely upped the pressure on the MCM Expo to draw the biggest crowd of video games cosplayers for their record attempt. Guinness World Records will be there on the day to count them in and ensure that our standards are met.
